A New Chapter in Learning at Wildlings

Project-Based Learning with Gemma Juel

At Wildlings, we’ve always believed that education should feel natural, exciting, and grounded in the world around us. That’s why we’re so excited to introduce our new Project-Based Learning (PBL) sessions, designed especially for Electively Home Educated (EHE) children for our new Wildlings Learning Community.

But let me take you back for a moment. We’ve spent years building a community that puts children at the centre of their learning journey—letting their curiosities guide them and their interests shape their experience. Through our Child Days spanning 5 years, open 48 weeks of each year, we’ve seen how powerful it can be when kids have the freedom to explore, discover, and learn in their own way, without the pressure of rigid academic structures. So many parents shared stories of how their children came alive in this environment, connecting with nature, themselves, and each other.

Now, we’re ready to take things to the next level with Project-Based Learning. Imagine your child diving deep into a project that they are passionate about—whether it’s studying the patterns of leaves in the forest, creating their own nature-inspired art, or documenting the life of insects they find while exploring outdoors. The projects are all child-led, with guidance from our amazing facilitator, Gemma Juel. And trust us, you’re going to love Gemma.

Meet Gemma Juel

Gemma is one of those rare souls who instantly connects with children. With years of experience in Special Educational Needs (SEN) and a passion for helping young people grow and thrive, she brings a unique blend of expertise, empathy, and creativity to her work. Gemma has seen firsthand the impact that a nurturing, child-centred approach can have, especially for kids who may not fit into the conventional schooling mould. She’s worked with children across a broad spectrum of needs, always adapting her approach to make sure each child feels safe, heard, and inspired.

But what makes Gemma truly special is her gift for turning everyday moments into opportunities for learning. Whether it’s exploring nature, discussing stories, or encouraging children to solve problems on their own terms, Gemma makes sure every child feels empowered to take control of their own learning journey.

Here’s what our new PBL sessions look like:

  • Children choose the direction of their own projects—whether it’s learning through art, writing, or hands-on exploration of the world around them.

  • The projects are grounded in real, sensory experiences, not abstract topics. Think of it as learning from life itself—whether it’s the sound of the wind in the trees or the texture of a leaf underfoot.

  • Each child will have their own project journal to document their ideas, progress, and discoveries. It’s a beautiful way to see their learning evolve over time.

  • Sessions are guided by Gemma’s gentle, encouraging approach, giving children the support they need to explore and grow at their own pace.

With Gemma’s warmth and expertise, combined with our passion for nature-based learning, we know these sessions will offer something truly special for your child.
